Two Saturdays in June! June 9 and 16 From 2:00 to 4:00 pm
Cost: $30 per session or $50 for both
Beginner contemporary dance workshops. Classes include warmup, dance technique phrases, moving through space, and guided creative exploration. Classes are designed for movers of all ages from teenagers to elders. Arwyn Carpenter and Carol Anderson share their expertise, skill and love of motion in these lively and fun movement sessions. This pair of June workshops will allow participants to delve a little deeper into investigating the art of motion.
Carol Anderson has pursued a long and diverse career as a dancer, choreographer, teacher, director and author. An avid dance writer, she has chronicled Canadian dance and dancers since the 1980s in a developing body of writing that includes biographies, collections, articles, notes, and essays. Recently retired from the Department of Dance at York University, she continues to write, teach and choreograph – and looks forward to spending more time at her place in the County where she’s cottaged for 21 years.
Arwyn Carpenter‘s aim as a teacher is to demystify dance classes for men and boys, for students of limited means, and for non-dancers of all body shapes and abilities. She believes the transferable skills achieved through dance include improved physical control and awareness, keener perception in relationships and interactions, and a greater sense of well being. She holds an MFA in Dance from NYU’s Tisch School and is an Ontario Certified Teacher currently teaching for the Toronto District School Board.
