This class will outline the basics of observational drawing with hopes of building a
comfort level for all levels of experience, and lead to an over all understanding of basic
drawing techniques which will assist with every day sketchbook musings and mark
making. Through discussion, examples and sketchbook exercises, we will cover
concepts, tools + materials and explore all fundamentals of drawing from life.
Students will need a sketchbook of their choosing and whatever drawing materials they
are comfortable with.
Recommended materials
-Moleskine plain sketchbook ( or similar style ) 4”x6” /or any pocket sized format
-Black ball point pen
-Technical pencil
-Any drawing tool you’re comfortable with

Stew Jones has a 4-year Associate Diploma in Drawing & Painting from the Ontario College of Art (1995) as well as having graduated from Sheridan College’s 3-year Classical Animation program (2001). Jones has and continues to exhibit oil paintings across North America ( AQUAMIAMI, AFFORDABLE ART FAIR NYC, LOVEART TORONTO, ARTIST PROJECT TORONTO). Jones continues to storyboard for commercials and has created album/production art for Canadian bands Cuff The Duke, Wayne Petti, Justin Rutledge, Jenny Whitely and Polaris and Juno award winning projects for Sarah Harmer. In 2012 Stew art/co-directed Juno award winning RUMBLESEAT – The Sadies (MUSIC VIDEO OF THE YEAR 2012). Jones is an active founding member of The CanadianArtCollective and CityFieldNorthShore painting collectives + has gallery representation in Ottawa & Prince Edward County.
