Spring smART Club for Kids

8 Saturday classes, 9:30 am – 12 pm starting March 23 2019
Have fun and be creative! New art projects and creative skills will be learned as well as making art a truly enjoyable and fun part of life! Ages 7 to 12.

March 23: Leanne Rhem – Fashion illustration
Ever wanted to learn how to design and draw clothes and costumes? We’ll go through the basics of fashion illustration and create a collection of fabulous two dimensional mixed media costumes!
March 30: Zac Kenny – Magic for Beginners
Learn some awesome and easy magic tricks to dazzle your family and friends! This course will teach you what you need to know to become a great magician.
April 6: Kirei Samuel – Making paper beads
Learn how to make beads from paper using magazines, newspapers and cardstock. Design your own patterns using markers and coloured pencils and turn your beautiful beads into a necklace or bracelet.
April 13: Vicki Bradley – Weaving
In this class participants will learn the basics of weaving using a variety of yarn and textiles. Students can then create their own designs on a y-shape stick using these techniques. Projects can be taken home after class.
April 20: Kamee Abrahamian – Ancestral Storytelling & Artmaking/Bookmaking-1
Connecting to the stories and lands of the people and places that we come from. Kids will be invited to bring a story from their family history that relates to a family member, a specific place or journey, a cultural tradition or practice. We will share our stories then create visual representations through collage-work.
April 27 Rhonda Nolan – Book cover and Binding/Bookmaking-2
Kids will learn how to make a simple accordion fold book and cover for the story from previous week.
May 4: Julianne Snepst – Improvisation
Explore the basics of improvisation through fun games and exercises. We’ll work on listening, building on each others’ ideas, and opening ourselves up to spontaneous fun! At the end of the session, we’ll learn and try a couple of improv scene structures that can be performed for an audience.
May 11: Jennifer Topaz Bruce
“We will explore colour and how it can help us to express how we feel while creating abstract paintings. We will also be spending some time experimenting with colour mixing.”
Cost: One Child $120, additional siblings $100 each.

On the first day please arrive a little early for registration and details! The doors will be open at 9:00 am. Please ensure your child wears old clothes. They should bring snacks and water bottles if needed.
